The Eurovision List: Stories that caught our eye Written by on May 6, 2013

Not surprisingly, there’s a lot of news posts, articles, and features out there in the world of the Eurovision Song Contest. During the two weeks running up to the Grand Final on May 18th, we’ll be picking out some of our highlights from the day.

If you’ve a story for The List, then get in touch and we’ll take a look.

Holding Out For Some Fans To Vote

Bonnie Tyler has spoken to the BBC online team about her hope that her fans across Europe will be enough on the night:

“I’m lucky with my fans, they’re very loyal to me,” she says. “They all reckon they’re going to vote, so I hope they’re going to – I think it will help boost my chances. I’m not counting my chickens though. I hope I will have a respectable score but if I don’t, I’ve been in this business too long to take it personally. There’s no point in taking yourself too seriously – we’re all in it to win it, but it’s not going to break my heart if I don’t win.”

Despite the inevitable political voting by some countries, Tyler believes the best songs will still have the greatest chance of winning.

A Thoroughly Good Lightning Review

Friend of the parish Jon Jacob is cutting back on Eurovision blogging this year, but his lightning reviews of the 39 songs this year makes for a good read. For example, “Romania: This is beyond words. Find your own.”

Ukraine’s Stage Show

Finally, the talk of the press room really was the Ukraine rehearsal. We all expected a jaw dropping show behind Zlata, and we got it. But perhaps the effect of their giant wasn’t quite what the delegation were looking for. Elaine Dove writes up her thoughts on Eurovision Ireland.

And now a word from Sweden…

If you’re looking for some words on the rest of today’s rehearsals, ESC Insight’s Samantha Ross has been doing a bit of blogging on SVT’s website (along with Aoife Geraghty for EscXtra). Ratings and thoughts, with a touch of the Swedish? Works for me!
