Newsletter: SDF for Eurovision 2016 Written by on April 6, 2015

Welcome to this week’s latest review of Eurovision madness in the ESC Insight Newsletter. Each week the Newsletter searches for the best news, articles and gossip from the Eurovision world and puts it in one place. The latest edition is available to read on this link.

This week we are looking at the fallout from the Greatest Hits Concert in London last Tuesday as well as looking beyond to Vienna itself with some latest live performances and alterations before the show. We also feature as always Robertson’s Reflection, a latest comment from Newsletter Editor Ben Robertson on his thoughts surrounding the world of Eurovision. This week he cooks up his dream backstage scenario from London’s Greatest Hits Concert; a meeting of hearts and minds that took place between the BBC and the wonderful Sarah Dawn Finer.

Firstly, we all know the Lynda Woodruff character and we know how easily that would translate across to a British broadcast of the competition as well. Those awkward and frankly embarrassing BBC Three halftime interviews would be better off more tongue-in-cheek and Lynda would be the ideal person to rock it. It would give as well the sufficient grounding with the BBC and with the United Kingdom for the announcement we all want the year after.

The amount of hysteria a Sarah Dawn Finer penned ballad co-written with (yuck, I know) Fredrik Kempe would create for the UK from those first 100 tweeters and status updates would be unparalleled. We’d have somebody trained in the Eurovision circus who’s got a belter of a voice to match. We’d have a song that would go through all the correct cliches of the Song Contest but hopefully tampered down at least by Dawn Finer’s 1st language English skills. We’d have something capable of giving televotes and jury votes and generating realistic expectations of a top-half finish.
