Terry Vision meets Suzy from Portugal Written by on April 13, 2014 | 5 Comments

Portugese songs are known for two things at Eurovision… starting a revolution and never finishing higher than fifth.

Does ESC Insight’s Senior Interviewer Terry Vision think that Suzy has what it takes in 2014, or should she head back to the cabin staff rota at Emirates Airlines?

You can follow Terry’s adventures through this year’s Eurovision Song Contest here on ESC Insight, or over on Terry’s Facebook page.

Terry does not know the Portuguese music scene. ‘Quero ser tua’ is so not 1986, but bless him anyway. And yes Portugal will never win ESC. Reaching the final is the best we can achieve no matter which song we send. I know people say neighboulry voting is a myth, but it is one that allows some countries to be present in the final just by showing up and others to be ignored most of the time – that is the lay of ESC land. At least, we are sending a song that will be a huge success here.

Oh my God shevek, even abroad you are working for our embarrassment. First you whine about neighbourly voting as if that’s the reason for Portugal’s continuous failures, then you make it a fact that everyone in Portugal likes this kind of useless dirge. It’s not true, many people don’t like this kind of music around here. The song has actually been mocked in every corner of the media. It’s totally lower class and if the lower classes like to pretend that classes no longer exist or that their tatses are as good as any other’s then it’s their own problem.

If Terry has the choice of doing research, or throwing out a quick line and getting out of the press room as quickly as possisble, hat do you think he’s going to choose? 🙂 Thanks for taking the time to comment Shevek!

Dearest Hugo, I never said that everyone likes the song. If you read (I am sure a person of your high sophistication knows how to read – just put the words together and blow…) the comments I write on the web, you know that I do not like the Portuguese entry, but I recognise its validity. This type of music is widely heard in our country by people who probably have never had the chance to get a good education. Their taste is just as valid as mine or yours. You are working for your embarassment. Go and hide behind your very sophisticated taste and by all means use the expression OMG! several times while doing it.

    P.S. – thank you, Ewan.

I can only hope that Lauren Bacall doesn’t mind my borrowing her line in a totally different context. 🙂
